Why I’m Nervous About the New England Patriots

Tom Brady directing trafficSaturday night is the night of the New England Patriots‘ last game of the season. For the first time in NFL history there is a team with a shot at a perfect regular season (16-0). This game is being simulcast over three networks (again, for the first time in NFL history - and only the second simulcast ever). During the game the Patriots will break the record for points scored in a season, and Tom Brady will probably break the season touchdown passing record, and Randy Moss may even break the season touchdown receiving record. It is estimated that this game will be the most watched regular season football game in history.

You might think that sitting pretty well atop the entire rest of the league is a non-stressful position… but it’s not. Much is at stake beyond this single season. The Patriots have a chance to establish themselves as the best team of ALL TIME! Those chances come once every few lifetimes for a team. This is beyond trying to win the Superbowl. This is big.

So every game from now on (and there’ll probably be four of them) will be a stressfest. I can only hope that the Pats put up enough of a lead early on so that I can actually enjoy these games in their second halves. :-)

Dude, The PATS are cheaters. say what you will, they will alway’s be known as the team with the perfect record (possibly if they beat the GIANTS, which they probaly will), although they will have put doubts in the minds of true NFL fans. When sis you actually become a PATS fan.

First of all, several coaches and commentators have said that what the Pats did wasn’t a huge leap from what is allowed every week anyway, and they added that they don’t believe it gives any edge during the game itself. That being said, sure… it was against the rules, but it was Week 1, and they have been spanking everyone so bad since then that nobody speaks of it anymore.

They spanked the Steelers pretty well, too, if I remember. :-)

And I’ve been a Pats fan for YEARS. I got Steve Grogan’s autograph back when I was like seven. I’ve still got a Ben Coates jersey from the Pats’ 1996 Superbowl run.

You are correct, they have spanked everybody pretty bad, to include Pittsburgh. I do like Brady. I think the thing that drives me insane about that club, is that the coach is a boob with no personality. You have to agree.

Bill Belichick definitely had a deadpan way about him… but I don’t mind. I kind of like it… it grew on me. His personality is the polar opposite of Bill Cowher, for sure.

Hey Terry & gang, please come up with something more cerebral than saying the Pat’s were cheating in the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the season by filming from the area just outside of the official area. Every team does it but a few feet to the left of where the Pat’s worked. PS: I hope Bill B. keeps his brain working toward the perfect season while many, many other coaches go shopping for colorful duds !!!!
