I guess it had more than that, he was indeed a good president. Compared to Bush or Clinton and 1000 times better. But i still don't know why even think about giving him a nobel prize.

It is really silly to give the award to a brand new president that hasn’t really accomplished much.

I guess they did it to support him a s a president, seeing that lots of people still felt that McCain should be president. And a nobel prize is quite good piece of support to convert people to Obama side.

Obama would have done himself and the world a favor by rejecting the prize and scolding the committee for their incompetence.

I think your post summed it up very well. There is obviously a lot more behind giving him this award than simply his work (if any during the period this award was given for) for peace.

This is the most laughable thing this committee has ever done - and it really does lesson the significance of the prize. Obama would have done himself and the world a favor by rejecting the prize and scolding the committee for their incompetence.

Yeah... this one isn't Obama's fault, obviously, since he's not part of the Nobel committee. And I'm sure he was shocked and maybe a little embarrassed to get this.

I'm pretty ignorant as to who would be the real pick for the prize... but if I could be so avant-garde I would probably pick a military leader -- maybe one who was most effective at eliminating the enemies of peace in a certain region. I've heard folks mention Patreus (sp)... but really I haven't looked into it enough to give an intelligent suggestion.

i don't disagree with all Obama's policies, but I agree giving him the Nobel Peace Prize is just plain stupid. there needs to be some history of accomplishments. It just doesn't make any sense. I will say that I am pressed to name anyone else deserving of the prize. Maybe Tracy McGrady for his support re: Darfur. There hasn't been a lot of peace lately.
