I Want to Use Nuclear Weapons on the Nobel Committee

Barack Obama in front of UN sealIs this some sick joke?

The laughable farce-of-an-award-committee that brought us the debacle of Al Gore, alarmist hypocrite extraordinaire, as a Nobel Prize winner… has set a bold, new standard of incompetence and political pandering. They awarded Barack Obama the Nobel Peace prize!? But for what?! He’s a young, first-term leader who has only served nine months and has spent those nine months losing support in the wake of his controversial, debt-laden government bailouts and his otherwise inaction and lack of change (or change for the worse, if you will).

The piece de resistance for me is the fact that the nomination cutoff for the Nobel was just 12 days after Obama took office!?! Are you frakkin’ kidding me?

From the Times Online UK:

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

i don’t disagree with all Obama’s policies, but I agree giving him the Nobel Peace Prize is just plain stupid. there needs to be some history of accomplishments. It just doesn’t make any sense. I will say that I am pressed to name anyone else deserving of the prize. Maybe Tracy McGrady for his support re: Darfur. There hasn’t been a lot of peace lately.

Yeah… this one isn’t Obama’s fault, obviously, since he’s not part of the Nobel committee. And I’m sure he was shocked and maybe a little embarrassed to get this.

I’m pretty ignorant as to who would be the real pick for the prize… but if I could be so avant-garde I would probably pick a military leader — maybe one who was most effective at eliminating the enemies of peace in a certain region. I’ve heard folks mention Patreus (sp)… but really I haven’t looked into it enough to give an intelligent suggestion.

This is the most laughable thing this committee has ever done – and it really does lesson the significance of the prize. Obama would have done himself and the world a favor by rejecting the prize and scolding the committee for their incompetence.

It is really silly to give the award to a brand new president that hasn’t really accomplished much.

I think your post summed it up very well. There is obviously a lot more behind giving him this award than simply his work (if any during the period this award was given for) for peace.

I guess they did it to support him a s a president, seeing that lots of people still felt that McCain should be president. And a nobel prize is quite good piece of support to convert people to Obama side.
