Another hundred monkeys

Okay, I was majorly bummed when I had to post this month that the Hundred Monkey Theory gig had been canceled: CANCELLED – Hundred Monkey Theory. Well, we’re back on for February.

I’ll be playing with HMT this coming Friday night, February 3, at Grace Fellowship Church. It’s a coffeehouse so there’s no cover, starts at 7:30pm, and there’s plenty of free coffee and goodies so if you’re in the neighborhood stop by. And, yes, the rumor that we’ll be playing some cool chords is still true. :-)

But so that no one feels deprived, here is a cool chord that I will NOT be playing this Friday night. As a movable chord shape it can already be played with any progression. But also as a very jazzy (and eccentric) chord it can be played within many different keys in a jazz context. As anoted here, at the 5th fret, it could be worked into many jazz keys.

Oh, and because I get asked constantly (for good reason) where HMT gets their name from, here is the explanation straight from Wikipedia on the origin of the Hundredth Monkey.

    Hi Steve,

I don’t think we’ve met, but I googled HMT and ran across your site. (Do you have too much time on your hands?) Dave (the stand-in drummer this weekend) is my husband. Thanks for your cool guitar effects at Terra Nova this weekend! Honestly, it really added to my worship. I am so thankful that God gave you this guitar playing talent so that people like me who don’t play guitar (or drums, or whatever) can marvel at God’s creativity.

I know y’all are going to be great on Friday at the Grace Coffee house! Maybe I will introduce myself.

    Wow, Tara… thanks! :-D What a blessing!

From what I heard your husband instantly learned every HMT song to perfection! This Friday should be great and I hope you DO introduce yourself. :-)

Yo, I heard Scott is jealous that I posted on your blog and not his. I think I will post on his blog tonight just to boost his self esteem.

Um Kay… tried to get on TN’s website, like 5 minutes after I was just on it and apparently it is down. Guess I can’t bless Scott’s self-esteem after all.
