So you’ve got a blog… what now?

In late October of 2005 I decided that no self-respecting holder of a Master of Science in Information Systems should be without a website. So I started a blog right here on negative99.com.

It’s been six full months now that April is over. Not that numbers mean much, but here’s a little breakdown (stats as of five minutes ago). I’ve manage to stumble up to a Technorati rank of 12,438 out of hundreds of thousands of blogs, and an Alexa website traffic rank of 223,426 out of around 7-10 million websites. I’ll take those numbers.

So what now? I could keep trying to scratch and claw to towards the top… but it starts to get really tough the closer you get. Anyone who has a blog knows that it can be time consuming… and supposedly I have a real life, too. :-) Have I sought out to do what I came to do? What is the best use of my resources?

Well… I’m going to keep going, but I may just shift things a bit. I think every blogger goes through this soul search at some point. I’ll probably move from posting a little something every day to maybe posting fewer, but more substantial and thought provoking articles. Some people who have taken this approach have even set up their blogs to showcase the latest article more prominently (or solely), whereas most blogs (like mine) simply show a smattering of the latest posts… and these blogs tend to be more frequently posted material on more varied and free-form topics.

Anyways… I thank everyone who stops by and I encourage all to continue to do so. ;-)

Just think: If he can create such exquisite posts on a time crunched daily basis now, imagine the posts he’ll create when he has time to formulate them over a couple of days…
To use a philosphy the talented Wendell taught me, The posts on the ‘Nines’ are like a fine wine – they have to age to be appreciated.

To quote another famous somebody… “I ain’t gettin’ any younger here!”. To think of more than twenty four hours w/o my neg99 or the “nines” as so said … oh the misery!! ( I really like reading the posts as you can tell! :) )

not as profound, but i can’t read posts that are longer. tv has effectively shortened my attention span to equal that of an eastern grey squirrel. now if we could access internet at work, it would be a totally different story…

Well you can, but you have to have a good excuse. I get off going to my blog at work on the nodes because I can always say that I use my web development links (which I do).

This wouldn’t work as well for you. Perhaps you should statr a blog with Mechanical Engineering links? :-)
