Bandwidth

Ok… ok… so this month has been sparse for posts. I have no good excuses, but of reasonable merit is my bandwidth predicament. You see, every website gets so much bandwidth and when you’ve depleted your monthly quota you can either pony up Hamiltons (pay more $$$) or let your site “blackout” until the quota is refreshed at the beginning of the next month.

Every time someone comes to a website their browser downloads all the little pieces that make up a site… text, graphics, stylesheets, and other objects (like Flash games). These all add up. I usually have plenty of my quota left at the end of the month, but my traffic has steadily increased over the last year and I get thousands and thousands of visitors every month. So this month I am pretty close to my limit.

I know that refraining from posting is a lame attempt to avoid additional traffic and interest in a website (indeed, isn’t that the purpose of the site?), but that’s all I can muster. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have a better excuse. In the mean time, know that I will post much more soon. ;-)

I’m with Alissa on this one — time for a new host.

    http://www.bluehost.com
    - 50 GB storage
    - 999 GB bandwidth
    - 5 Domains
    - 20 Subdomains
    - and a bunch of other stuff.
    - $166.00 for 24 months (best deal, breaks down to about $7/month, although they have other options.)

I’ve used these guys before for other projects and, for the most part, I’ve been pretty happy with them. Now, if you’re using more than 999GB for bandwith, I don’t know that I can help you.

alissa :: Well, mayhaps I should… but the provider I have now came on good authority by a fellow web developer who said she liked them. :-) I think you’re right, though.

BA :: I need to get my arse in gear… but the more activities I opt out of the less time I have… how the heck does that work?

gnorb :: That sounds like a great hosting plan… better than mine. I’m workin’ on just 20GB of bandwidth a month. Mine is cheaper but has a fraction of the storage, too. Hmmm… you’ve given me food for thought.

scott :: :-) I couldn’t resist. And the fact that the wife sent it to me gave me the green light all the way!

You don’t know me, but my host is pretty good too. They don’t charge for bandwidth at all as long as 80% (I think) of the bandwith consists of viewable files (.htm, .php, etc.) and not things like streaming audio or video. I can’t remember the actual stats on the plan, but its for 14 months and only about $100ish. You can check it out if you’d like

Their uptime is very good, I’ve been with them for about 3 years now and my site has only gone down once for about 10 minutes.

Will if you have some issues with your bandwidth then I suggest you get a new and bigger hosting package since you’re experiencing a bandwidth issue. Getting a bigger hosting space and bandwidth will be able to fix your issue. Good luck! Check us out maybe we can be of great help to you!
