Is it “jif” or “gif”?

This website page, www.olsenhome.com/gif, was recently all over the blogosphere and I thought I’d link to it here. Anyone who uses a ‘puter is bound to come across a gif file. But so many people don’t know what to call it… is it a hard ‘g’ like gift, or a soft one like giraffe? And you want to know… because when you refer to it incorrectly you make yourself look like a novice. :-) Which is why you need to be careful saying anything from another language, like Versace or hors d’œuvre, because you could really peg yourself as uncouth.

Oh, and by the way… it’s pronounced “jif”.

Thanks for the pronouncian guide, I know i was emotionally devastated when people laughed at me in college for pronouncing natural logarithm as “lawn” instead of a distinct “L N.” Now i’ll never make a similar gaffe talking about graphics files.

So is Graphics Interchange Format actually pronounced… GJraphics Interchange Format? ;)

Sorry man, I own up to not having enough self-control to resist. Seriously, I wanted to thank you for the Driscoll link from last week, that was a very informative message.

    Thanks again.

Grace and peace be with you.

Don't be vulgar or idiotic. If your comment seems to be made for link value, or for advertising your business, and not to contribute to the discussion then your comment will probably be edited or deleted.
