I hope people remember him for an addict and a child molester. I hope people remember him as the King of pop who threw his own crown on the ground. I hope people remember him as the guy that would give you a ton of money in order to shut you up.

An amazing artist in his younger days, I saw him in Chicago in 84' the victory tour.. 'amazing' is an understatement... Unfortunately he was unable to handle his fame and lost the respect of many including myself. I can not fathom how people can respect his past by ignoring his last 20 years of addiction and filth.

Try and get your mind around this; the spice girls are still making a fair amount of residual income from their popularity 11 years ago yet the phenomenally more popular Michael Jackson has near bankrupt multiple times.

I am not commenting on the coverage of the media. There is nothing new to discuss here.. they are as blind and ignorant as they are pretty and plastic.
Have a good week everyone.

Indeed, it's been interesting to watch the media reaction to his death. I think it's important that people realise any media reaction is very sensationalised and that there are more important things happening in the world and in everyone's own personal lives.

"Nothing turns you from media pinata to media darling as fast a death. I was a fan in his prime – the 80’s – and I truly enjoyed the Thriller album. It’s a portrait of human fallibility that someone at the “top” could topple so hard in later years. Those of us who understand the depravity of man already know that this capacity for a downward spiral is in each of us."

I'm a big fan of MJ. But I was not saddened by the news of his death. I'm a fan of Michael Jackson the Performer, and not of the man himself. And I believe the performer already died a long time ago.

No matter how much of a freak he was in the late years he is still one of the great artist of all times. I hope people will remember him for the music.

Thanks War-Axe.

Yeah, that's just the way things seem. Though I personally would give the media a little bit more leeway with Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. From what I've heard, Princess Di was genuinely concerned with other people's plights and whatnot. To me, Michael Jackson was just a freak and deserves no more coverage than a little footnote. I will stick with your opinion on it though, I was too young to remember the deaths of Princess Di and St. Teresa.

@J3S
Sempi Fi! I wish you a steady and accurate aim.

What you were saying reminded me of when Mother Theresa and Princess Di both died at the same-ish time. The Di coverage completely obliterated any attention Mother Theresa got. It really, really sickened me at the time... especially to hear the windbag media idiots blathering on and on about Di's "bountiful" and "nearly endless" efforts for charities and worthy causes. WTF?!? If the blowhards really cared about those things they'd be heralding MT, who eclipsed Di in that category by a few orders of magnitude - NO COMPARISON! ARGH!

@Liz
LOL! Yeah, right?

Yeah, it's sad that a man died, but there are a lot of other important news issues going on right now. There are better men who have died that deserve more attention that this creepy dude, but aren't getting it.

What I don't like is that we have an event going on right now that could change the equations of world politics over in Iran, and we are paying attention to this. This may actually be a bad blow to the freedom fighters over there, because the Americans with all the power in the world suddenly stop paying attention to them because some weirdo died. It irks me in particular, because I've just enlisted in the Marines, and we are wasting time that could be used to make the Iranian situation slightly better, time that could save my life if it were used properly in the first place. I want to slap around somebody from the mainstream media.

Reminds me of U2 saying they go to the South of France to get away cause no one bothers them there. MJ should have found a similar spot to spend his free time.
